Apply for Emergency Medical Waivers for state assessments starting May 11
4/14/2026
State assessment waiver applications due by May 29
Ohio law requires students to participate in state assessments for grades 3-8 and end-of-course exams. In rare cases, a significant and unexpected medical emergency may prevent a student from testing. When this happens, districts and community schools may apply for an Emergency Medical Waiver.
The application will be available in the Data Collection tile in OHID from May 11-29. Superintendents or their designees must submit the completed application by the end of business on May 29. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
Please note:
- In general, if a student can receive instruction, that student is expected to participate in state assessments.
- Approved waivers remove the student from all accountability calculations.
- Denied waivers result in the student being counted as “untested.”
- A waiver does not exempt a student from meeting graduation pathway requirements.
