Reaching All Students Through Language and Literacy subgrants aim to improve literacy instruction

8/1/2022

The Department announces the competitive Reaching All Students Through Language and Literacy subgrants. The subgrants supply training and support for educators to better understand how to draw on the family, community, linguistic and cultural background of students to improve the quality of literacy instruction at their buildings or districts.

The Department expects to award $4 million to 20 subgrantees (up to $200,000 per site). The project will develop a two-year network of educators from subgrantee schools; provide participants with extensive training from national experts in language, literacy, dialect, and family and community engagement; and support each participant in creating and implementing an individual project to improve literacy instruction at their buildings or districts. Network meetings will occur monthly throughout the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 academic years on a virtual platform.

The Department will consider school type, including community school, dropout recovery program and public STEM school, and traditional public school typology to ensure equitable distribution of awards.

At least one award will be set aside for the most qualified application from a community school and a dropout prevention and recovery community school.

Eligible entities include traditional public school districts, community schools and STEM schools. Chartered nonpublic schools are encouraged to apply and may take part in networking activities, professional learning and consultation but are not eligible to receive funding through this project.

Applicants should send a Notice of Intent to Apply by Aug. 15. The final application must be sent in the Comprehensive Continuous Improvement Plan (CCIP) by Sept. 15 at 4:59 p.m. Visit the Reaching All Students website for more information.
