Action: Encourage families and students to apply for Department workgroups

8/4/2026

Workgroup engagement opportunities open through Sept. 8

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce is accepting applications and nominations for two workgroups for the upcoming school year. Schools and districts are encouraged to share these opportunities with their grade 8-12 students in particular and all families of students in grades K-12.

As in past years, the workgroup engages in discussions with the Department to support Ohio’s K-12 education system. Students will explore educational topics, provide feedback, and use skills to investigate problems, develop solutions, and use a project-based approach to learning. The Department will host virtual meetings with an in-person meeting opportunity in the spring.

  • The Department is seeking parents, caregivers, and adults living with and supporting children in Ohio’s K-12 schools to apply for the new Ohio Family Voice Workgroup. The purpose of the workgroup is to be a key voice within a larger integrated system that supports the Department’s work. Members will examine topics through an Ohio family’s lens, participate in discussions, and provide feedback on policy and support to the Department. For example, last year’s Ohio Student Voice Workgroup discussed student mental health, social media safety, improving local community involvement opportunities, and more.

Nominations and applications are due by Sept 8. Visit the Ohio Student Voice Workgroup and Ohio Family Voice Workgroup webpages to submit.

Direct questions about either application process to Engagement@education.ohio.gov.
