Waiver for subject-accelerated elementary and middle school students

12/10/2024

Public comments due by Jan. 2

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce is currently seeking feedback on a proposed waiver for subject-accelerated elementary and middle school students. The Department is requesting a waiver from certain statutory requirements under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA) in order to best serve all students’ needs.

If granted, the waiver request would allow subject-accelerated elementary and middle school students to take the tests aligned with their course of study, instead of the grade-level tests for the grade in which they are enrolled. This waiver would replace the previously approved waiver for Ohio middle school students that expires at the conclusion of the 2024-2025 school year.

Visit this webpage to review the waiver and provide feedback.

The deadline for public comment is Thursday, Jan. 2.
