“Innovating Smarter” contest closes Feb. 1
The National Academy of Engineering is offering a writing contest through its EngineerGirl initiative called “Innovating Smarter.” While EngineerGirl is designed to bring national attention to opportunities in engineering for women and girls, the contest invites students of all genders to describe a common object they would make “smart” and brainstorm how it could help others, as well as the risks of making it a smart object.
The contest is open to all students in grades 3-12 until Feb. 1. Participating students will be divided into three entry categories based on grade level, and each category’s first place awardee will win $1,000.
Find more details, including notes and suggestions for educators to promote the contest in the classroom, on the EngineerGirl website.
