Federal Quota Registration of Blind Students due Feb. 18

12/20/2021

On Dec. 14, the Assistive Technology and Accessible Educational Materials Center at OCALI, on behalf of the Department, securely emailed the annual Federal Quota Registration of Blind Students to all Ohio school districts. This email requests all Ohio districts to electronically register every legally blind student attending their districts. Districts also must include eligible preschool, homebound, home-schooled and adult students.

Districts serving students with visual impairments must provide students with accessible educational materials. Materials include audio, braille, digital and large print textbooks and educational aids. The Federal Quota registration generates supplemental funds for registered students. The Assistive Technology and Accessible Educational Materials Center purchases supplemental accessible educational materials at the district’s request from the American Printing House for the Blind with these funds.

Each registered student must meet eligibility guidelines, as well as have a current eye report (within three years) and signed parent permission form on file at the student’s district of attendance. Please note that due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the updated eye report requirement has been waived for the 2022 registration. Learn more about the Federal Quota eligibility requirements.

Districts must complete the 2022 Federal Quota Registration of Blind Students through the Assistive Technology and Accessible Educational Materials Center’s web portal and the superintendent must electronically sign it by Feb. 18, 2022.
