Purple Star webinar series begins Feb. 15

The Department invites educators to register for the Purple Star webinar series taking place Feb. 15-March 29. The series consists of six free webinars to bolster supports for students and families connected to the nation’s military. Topics include:

• Military culture and its effect on dependents;
• The Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children;
• Postsecondary transitions of military-connected students;
• Community outreach to support military families;
• The Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) and Ohio Military Kids (OMK); and
• Military student identification.

Webinars are open to all educators and schools interested in learning more about issues facing military-connected students. Schools throughout Ohio serve students from National Guard, reserve and active-duty military families.

The Purple Star Award recognizes schools that show a major commitment to students and families connected to the nation’s military. These webinars meet the professional development requirement for the Purple Star designation.
