Ohio Department of Natural Resources film shares natural wonders with students

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is making the great outdoors available to students around the state with Ohio: Wild at Heart, a free, 45-minute film to stream in classrooms.

Educators can visit ODNR's website and fill out a brief form to access to the film. Note that internet access is required to watch the movie. An educator guide is also available for free download so teachers can relate the themes and topics covered in the film to Ohio’s education standards.

Narrated by Ohio State football legend Archie Griffin, the film takes viewers on a journey through Ohio’s natural wonders in all four seasons and spreads the message of conservation success stories like the reintroduction of bald eagles and trumpeter swans. Students of all ages will be captivated by the thrill of Ohio’s outdoor play spaces as they go on a dog sledding trek, step out on to a frozen lake to fish, and roll through the Mohican forest with mountain bikers. The film also provides a “bird’s eye” view of the cliffs and waterfalls of the Hocking Hills in southeastern Ohio and one of the largest freshwater lakes in the world, Lake Erie.

The film introduces students to people who have a unique connection to nature, demonstrating how the great outdoors is vital to physical and mental well-being. ODNR hopes future conservationists will deepen their understanding of and relationship with the outdoors, young Ohioans will be encouraged to make timeless memories outdoors, and the next generation will be inspired to take pride in Ohio’s natural resources.
