State finalists honored with national RISE award for school employees

National program highlights exemplary school service
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce is pleased to recognize Ohio’s two state finalists for the 2026 Recognizing Inspirational School Employees (RISE) Award, a program created by Congress in 2019 and overseen by the U.S. Department of Education. The award highlights classified school employees who provide exemplary service to their schools, students, colleagues, and communities.
Margie Petrunia, a library aide with Lakeview Local Schools, was recognized on Jan. 23 for her outstanding contributions. Margie creates a welcoming and supportive environment for students, fostering a love of reading and learning every day. She efficiently runs Lakeview Local’s food pantry, supporting families in need with her compassion and organizational skills. Margie also leads the annual Angel Tree project, providing Christmas gifts and holiday meals to over 200 children. Her dedication and genuine desire to help others makes her a cornerstone of her community and a deserving finalist.
Julie Robbins, the head custodian at Cedar Cliff Local Schools, was honored on Feb. 13. Julie is the picture of excellence and commitment. Julie actively contributes to Cedar Cliff's K-12 building by supporting teachers, connecting with students, and fostering a welcoming environment. She also leads the Sources of Strength chapter for middle school students, promoting suicide awareness and kindness. Julie sets a high standard for classified employees and motivates others to engage in school activities. Her leadership shows her dedication beyond her role, and her work has positively impacted many lives in Cedarville.
