Military Signing Day event highlights future service members
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce will host Military Signing Day, a celebration of Ohio students committing to military service, on March 10 at 11 a.m. in Columbus. Students in grades 11 and 12 who have committed to military service, as well as their guests, are invited to attend. This includes Ohio students who:
- Will attend a service academy in the fall,
- Accepted a Reserve Officer Training Corp (ROTC) scholarship, or
- Enlisted for service as active duty, reserve, or National Guard.
Registration is free and required to attend. Sign up by Feb. 27 or sooner, as space is limited and may fill before the deadline. Each student will receive a certificate and a cord to wear at graduation.
The event will take place at the National Veterans Memorial and Museum at 300 W. Broad Street in Columbus. Doors open at 10 a.m. for check-in and museum access, and the program will begin promptly at 11 a.m.
This year’s event will feature Ohio-based speakers who are leaders in the military, education, and workforce development fields. The event will also include a student speaker who will share their reason for serving.
Those interested in speaking should submit a copy of their remarks (no more than five minutes in length) with a biography to PurpleStar@education.ohio.gov by Feb. 23. The speaker will be notified if selected.
Attendees are invited to view the museum’s exhibits prior to and following the ceremony. Parking for this event is free.
Individuals can help promote the event on social media by using the hashtag #OhioMilitarySigningDay.
