Department awards exceptional district, building achievements

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce is thrilled to recognize the exceptional achievements of Ohio’s districts and buildings in the 2023-2024 academic year.

The Ohio School Report Card 2023-2024 awardees included:  

  1. Overall 5-star districts and buildings: A total of 68 districts and 299 buildings achieved an overall rating of 5 stars.  
  1. Career Technical Planning District Overall 5-Star: 55 districts met the overall 5-star criteria.  
  1. Dropout Prevention and Recovery Exceeds Standards: A total of 43 Drop Out Prevention and Recovery schools earned an exceeds standards.  
  1. Momentum Award Districts and Buildings: Seven districts and 193 buildings met the Momentum award criteria. The momentum award is for districts and schools that have improved their performance index by three or more points from the 2022-2023 report card to the 2023-2024 report card AND received a Progress rating of four or more stars.

Ohio’s Star-Rated Accountability System

The 2023-2024 Ohio School Report Cards evaluate five critical components:  

  • Achievement: Measuring student proficiency in various subjects
  • Progress: Tracking student growth over time
  • Gap Closing: Addressing achievement gaps among different student groups
  • Early Literacy: Fostering strong reading, writing, and language skills
  • Graduation: Ensuring students successfully complete their educational journey to prepare them for the workforce and beyond
