February is National Children’s Dental Health Month

2/21/2023

Oral health is critical at all stages of life but especially important during the growth and development of children and adolescents. Schools and districts can support students’ oral health by implementing an oral health screening program, dental sealant program or school-based dental clinic. Poor oral health can negatively affect a child’s nutritional status, quality of life, school attendance, educational achievements and emotional well-being. Access to routine oral health services results in better oral health.

To assist schools and districts in supporting the oral health of their students from preschool through graduation, the Department has updated the Student Health and Medication Supports information to include Supporting Students’ Oral Health. This webpage provides schools and districts with resources to assist them in creating and monitoring the oral health of their students.
