Stronger Connections Grant application available March 1
2/21/2023
The Stronger Connections Grant competitive application will be available to eligible local education agencies (LEAs) on March 1. The competitive application will close April 1 at 11:59 p.m. More information, including application instructions and Frequently Asked Questions, can be found in CCIP Note 521. The Department also will hold webinars on the application process Feb. 22, 11 a.m. to noon and Feb. 23, 3-4 p.m.
The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act authorized the Stronger Connections Grant. The grant is a supplement to the Title IV, Part A, Student Support and Academic Enrichment (SSAE) program to provide safer and healthier learning environments for students and educators. LEAs that received a state Fiscal Year 2023 Title IV allocation are eligible. The Department will award grants competitively to eligible LEAs that apply and meet selected criteria indicating they are “high need” for school health and safety.
This grant opportunity complements Future Forward Ohio, which prioritizes addressing barriers that prevent students from engaging in learning, including health and mental health needs. The plan provides supportive structures for students with a priority of student wellness. LEAs can use Stronger Connections Grant funds to support their local student wellness needs as they move forward. The Department encourages eligible LEAs to begin consulting with local stakeholders and community partners to determine health and safety needs and plan for use of funds to support students and educators.
LEAs can attend an upcoming webinar Feb. 22 or Feb. 23 by clicking the Teams links provided in the CCIP Note 521. Contact strongerconnections@education.ohio.gov with questions.
