Department resources support practical, responsible AI integration in Ohio classrooms

Resources available to integrate AI into content-area instruction

Ohio is preparing students for an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven future by integrating AI into Ohio's Learning Standards. A new package of resources helps teachers build AI skills across subjects in alignment with Ohio's Computer Science and Technology Standards. The resources were designed to offer practical tips for using AI across subject areas, while promoting digital citizenship, critical thinking, and ethics.

Content integration resources are available for English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts, financial literacy, physical education, and world languages and cultures.

Additionally, the Student AI Usage Model, found within the resource package, provides clear guidelines for responsible classroom use, covering tasks like brainstorming, editing, and group projects with a focus on honesty and transparency while using AI. Examples show AI can be used as a tool for personalized learning, research, and accessibility. These strategies aim to make Ohio schools dynamic, inclusive, and future-ready.

In December, the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce released a model policy on AI in education. Under Ohio law, all Ohio traditional public school districts, community schools, and STEM schools must adopt a formal AI policy by July 1. This model policy provides a clear template that districts can use as written or adapt to meet local needs. It reflects the Department’s commitment to preparing students for a technology-driven world and supporting educators with practical AI guidance to enhance instruction and learning opportunities.

Additional resources are available on the Department’s AI in Education webpage.
