Student Interactions with Peace Officers Model Curriculum update

2/25/2025

New legislation repeals curriculum requirements

Previous Ohio law required the directors of the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce and Ohio Department of Public Safety to develop a model curriculum for students in grades 9-12 on proper interactions with peace officers.

Recent legislation enacted by the Ohio General Assembly and signed by Governor DeWine on Jan. 8 will repeal the Student Interactions with Peace Officer Model Curriculum effective April 9.

This change impacts Ohio law, including sections governing the Department of Education and Workforce, local boards of education, and instructional methods of driver training schools.

Due to these legislative updates, the Department will not continue the process of finalizing the model curriculum draft.
