Imagination Library mails free books to Ohio’s young children

2/27/2023

Many people don’t know that Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio sends one book each month to children until their fifth birthday. All children in Ohio are eligible and the program is available at no cost to families. Early care and education programs can support families in enrolling while fostering an essential home and school connection.

Marion City Schools, a Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant subgrantee, developed a local Literacy Success Team that engages community members such as the Marion Public Library, Early Head Start, Head Start, WIC and Marion General Hospital to promote the importance of language and literacy in early childhood. Marion County began with 33% of children enrolled in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio. Through the collaborative work of Marion’s Literacy Success Team, their enrollment is now at 58% and continuing to grow.
