Important updates on Kindergarten Readiness Assessment reporting

1/14/2025

Updates on data use, availability, and assessment errors

Incomplete or invalid assessments

For students who have incomplete assessments (missing one or more item scores) or invalid assessments (one or more items marked Not Scorable (NS) for students without disabilities and who are not English learners), the affected scale scores will be blank on the Scale Score Report. These rows should be reviewed before EMIS submission to confirm they are invalid. If a data error has occurred and the item scores are available or the student demographics for English learner or Individualized Education Program (IEP) status were not accurately reported in KReady, please contact KRAHelp@education.ohio.gov for assistance.

These students will have an overall scale score on the Individual Student Report and one of these messages: Some items were not complete or Complete with NS. These reports should be used with caution. An Individual Student Report with the Complete with NS message is valid only for a student who is identified as an English learner or who has an IEP.

EMIS reporting

Users can download the KRA-R Scale Score report and then report the scores to EMIS as in past years.

For a student who attended more than one district this school year, the district with the latest enrollment as of Nov. 1 should report the KRA-R results in EMIS.

The EMIS reporting window is open now through March 28. The Department of Children and Youth encourages districts to submit Fiscal Year 2025 KRA-R data to EMIS as soon as possible to allow time for resolution of potential issues that might be identified during the EMIS submission process.

For KReady technical questions, please contact the Help Desk at 844-K12-OHIO (844-512-6446) or website.

Chartered nonpublic schools’ use of KRA

As state law requires, any chartered nonpublic school that wants to use Ohio’s Kindergarten Readiness Assessment may do so if they alert the Department of Children and Youth to their interest before March 31, 2025, and sign an agreement outlining security and use. To indicate initial interest in using the KRA (with no commitment), complete this online form. The Department of Children and Youth will follow up regarding next steps.

Data availability and location

After submission of KRA data to EMIS, the data becomes available in the Secure Data Center. The Secure Data Center is an interactive tool that allows districts to review data submitted to EMIS before data is final.

The District Kindergarten Readiness report provides results for the KRA-R Overall and Language and Literacy areas for the most recent five school years submitted to EMIS. This report can be found through the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce’s Report Portal in the Secure Data Center under the Test Results Tile.

For more information about the Secure Data Center and status of this report, see the Secure Data Center Status of Reports webpage.
