Ohio Teacher of the Year is finalist for 2022 National Teacher of the Year award
The Council of Chief State School Officers selected Ohio’s 2022 Teacher of the Year, Kurt Russell, as a finalist for the 2022 National Teacher of the Year award. Russell received the Ohio Teacher of the Year honor in September. After receiving the state honor, he joined a cohort of 56 candidates from states, U.S. extra-state territories, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Education Activity. Of these 56 educators, four are finalists for the national award. This spring, the Council of Chief State School Officers will name one of the four finalists as the 2022 National Teacher of the Year. The National Teacher of the Year will spend a year serving as an ambassador for education and advocate for all teachers and students.
Russell has taught multiple courses including African American history, U.S. history, international baccalaureate history of the Americas, and a course on race, gender and oppression at Oberlin High School. Learn more about Russell and read the press release announcing the national finalists on the Department’s Teacher of the Year webpage.
