Funding and updated resources available to support literacy instruction
Request for applications: Comprehensive Literacy State Development Grant
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce is accepting applications from districts and schools serving K-12 students for the $60 million Comprehensive Literacy State Development grant, funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The grant will support teaching and learning opportunities to help Ohio students advance their literacy skills, with a focus on those who have been traditionally underserved.
This grant further supports Ohio Governor Mike DeWine's ReadOhio initiative, a statewide effort to improve literacy skills for all ages that includes the implementation of curriculum, intervention, and professional development aligned with the science of reading.
Eligible local education agencies may submit applications to develop comprehensive literacy implementation sites. Selected sites will use grant funds to strengthen the ways teachers and administrators implement literacy instruction to improve student outcomes.
Visit the Comprehensive Literacy State Development grant webpage for additional resources. Interested applicants are also encouraged to review the newly updated Ohio’s Plan to Raise Literacy Achievement.
Questions can be directed to ComprehensiveLiteracy@education.ohio.gov. Grant application questions should be submitted by midnight Feb. 11.
