Recent emergency legislation changed the Third Grade Reading Guarantee promotion criteria for the 2021-2022 school year. Among these changes, students in third grade can no longer be retained based solely on academic performance in reading. Also, decisions about promotion or retention must be made in consultation with parents or guardians.

The Department invites the education community to provide input on the draft version of Ohio’s Dyslexia Guidebook by Jan. 19. The guidebook will provide information regarding best practices and methods for universal screening, intervention and remediation for children with dyslexia or children displaying dyslexic characteristics.

National Child and Adult Care Food Program Week is March 13-19. Child care centers, family day care homes, after-school programs and adult day centers that plan at least one nutrition activity in honor of the week and share it with the Department may be showcased during the national celebration.
