New, no-cost threat assessment training opportunity

7/18/2022

The Department invites Ohio districts and school personnel to professional development events for the nationally recognized Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG) model.

Training in the CSTAG model requires districts to create multidisciplinary threat assessment teams consisting of district and school staff from each school. This one-day event fulfills the Safety and Violence Education Students (SAVE Students) Act threat assessment training requirement. The district multidisciplinary team should include the following:

  • District Team: two or three personnel responsible for school safety;
  • Elementary School Teams: three people, including the principal, a school mental health professional (counselor, social worker or psychologist) and one other person;
  • Middle and High School Teams: five people, including the principal, assistant principal, a school mental health professional, such as a counselor, social worker or psychologist, school resources officer, if applicable, and one or two other people.
The one-day, in person trainings will occur on the following dates:
  • Aug. 2 in Columbus;
  • Aug. 30 in the southwest Ohio area;
  • Sept. 20 in the northeast Ohio area;

A school or district contact person should complete this form by July 22 to take part in this opportunity. Space is limited and enrollment will occur on a first come, first served basis. The district or school contact person will receive notification of acceptance or denial July 27.

All districts and schools not chosen will have threat assessment training available this fall through regional educational service centers. The Department will share information on regional trainings soon. Contact Jill Jackson with questions.
