Third Grade Reading Guarantee promotion criteria for 2022-2023 school year

The State Board of Education and the Department recently set 2022-2023 promotion criteria for the Third Grade Reading Guarantee.

Updated Dyslexia Guidebook available

Newly passed legislation has changed some components of the dyslexia support laws. Ohio’s Dyslexia Guidebook now reflects these changes.

New Rules for Public Comment

The Department regularly posts rules for public comment. However, the Department has not posted any new rules since the last edition of EdConnection. Find the rules and related public comment deadlines on the Department’s website. Check the site often as additional rules may be added throughout the week.

Fiscal Year 2022 Assessment and Student Data Appeals open

From July 14-22, districts may appeal the following Fiscal Year 2022 data:

• Fall Third Grade English Language Arts and Reading;
• Dropout Prevention and Recovery Assessment;
• Student.

From July 20-27, districts may appeal the following Fiscal Year 2022:

• Spring End-of-Course Assessment;
• Spring State Assessments Grades 3-8.

Career-Readiness Leaders Meetups return this fall

The Department, in partnership with the educational service centers of Northeast and Central Ohio and the Building Bridges to Careers Network, will host virtual Career-Readiness Leaders Meetups again this school year.
