School access available for free adaptive sports equipment
Through Adaptive Sports Ohio’s Interscholastic Wheelchair Basketball League, students with physical disabilities can play school sports. With free support and resources provided by Adaptive Sports Ohio, this initiative requires minimal time and financial investment from a school district, yet it has a significant positive impact on student athletes, schools, and communities.
Students with physical disabilities deserve the same opportunities to benefit from school sports as their non-disabled peers. As part of the league, students with physical disabilities can:
- Wear their school’s colors with pride
- Build friendships and team camaraderie
- Ride the bus with teammates
- Compete against rival schools
- Earn recognition and awards, including senior night, varsity letters, and All-Ohio
- Attempt a playoff berth and a chance to win the state championship
- Have an opportunity to obtain a collegiate wheelchair basketball scholarship
Teams are made up of district students with physical disabilities, not restricted to wheelchair users, in grades 1-12. A limited number of non-disabled students are permitted on the roster.
Adaptive Sports Ohio assists school districts by providing free equipment, coach and official training, season scheduling, rule implementation, and league oversight.
