OELPS opens Aug. 4 for the 2026-2027 school year
The Ohio English Language Proficiency Screener (OELPS) will open on Aug. 4 for the new school year. This assessment helps schools identify students who may need English language support and ensure they receive services as quickly and accurately as possible.
Ohio uses a two‑step statewide process to identify English learners:
- Language Usage Survey, completed during enrollment
- OELPS, administered to students based on the survey responses which indicated a possible need for English‑language instruction
Districts and schools can learn more about Ohio’s standardized identification process and English‑language instruction programs by visiting the state’s webpages on Identifying English Learners and English Language Instruction Educational Programs.
