Free meals for children this summer

6/10/2024

The Summer Food Service Program has a new name: SUN Meals! All children ages 1 through 18 are eligible to receive free meals during the summer months at participating program sites. Individuals ages 19 through 21 who have been identified as having mental or physical disabilities and are following Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) through their current enrollment in educational programs also are eligible for free summer meals.

Participation is simple and no sign-up is required. To learn about meal times and site locations, call 1-866-3-HUNGRY (1-866-348-6479) or visit the SUN Meals webpage.

As part of an effort to enhance USDA's summer nutrition programs, approved meal providers in low-income, rural areas can now use alternate service models that are tailored to the needs of the children and communities they serve. Meal sites using these flexibilities, which allow for multiple meals to be provided at once or consumed off site, are featured on the SUN Meals Site Map as “Grab and Go” meals.

The Department frequently updates the SUN MEALS Food Site Map with additional providers throughout the summer.
