6/10/2024
Free online professional development is available through the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce’s Learning Management System (LMS). Three courses on special education include: The Essentials of the Special Education Process, Beyond the Essentials, and Secondary Transition for Students with Disabilities.
The Essentials of the Special Education Process contains modules specific to developing an Evaluation Team Report (ETR), Individualized Education Program (IEP), and postsecondary transition plan. This course also offers a four-part series on developing an internal monitoring team and how to use the IDEA Monitoring Process Guide to review records for compliance.
Beyond the Essentials is designed to provide information on specific topics related to special education that go beyond the special education process. This course contains modules on least restrictive environment, disproportionality in special education, Co-Plan to Serve, and IEP goal construction.
The Secondary Transition course focuses on the constructs and practices that facilitate implementation of effective secondary transition for students with disabilities.
Each LMS module offers an interactive learning experience, resources, and the opportunity to receive a certificate of completion. Begin a course by first logging in to OHID and opening the Learning Management System application. Once in the system, search for special education using the course catalog in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
