Resources to encourage and support international and foreign exchange student programs

3/20/2023

The International and Foreign Exchange Students webpage contains requirements and considerations to best support international and foreign exchange students in Ohio schools. The resource addresses enrollment, English learner supports, language instruction programs, engagement and more.

The United States departments of State and Education recently issued a joint letter to school superintendents encouraging international exchanges this academic year and in the future. In the letter, the Secretaries of State and Education describe American high school exchanges as a “fundamental part of U.S. public diplomacy efforts.” Further, the “presence of international students in our classrooms benefits American students and schools by promoting cultural curiosity, a global mindset, and mutual understanding.”

Ohio welcomes international and foreign exchange students. The Department is committed to providing educational access and supports for all of Ohio’s students. For more information, contact the Office of Whole Child Supports at wholechild@education.ohio.gov.
