Recognizing the impact of Ohio’s farmers and growers
The Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) is committed to protecting and preserving the state’s bountiful resources. During March, which is National Agriculture Month, Ohioans are encouraged to learn more about the daily importance of agriculture and recognize the farmers and growers who support the state’s top industry.
The food and agriculture industry adds $124 billion to the state economy each year. More than 200 different crops and livestock are grown and raised in Ohio, providing families with food, fuel, and fiber. This National Agriculture Month, encourage and educate students about the importance of thanking farmers and local agricultural business owners. Ohio is also focused on cultivating the next generation of farmers and growers by connecting students of all ages with opportunities to participate in 4H, the National FFA Organization, and multiple career-technical education programs.
From those tending fields to those involved in the restaurant industry, one in eight Ohioans are employed in the agricultural community that serves with dedication and care. ODA’s 25 divisions and programs meet a wide range of industry needs by protecting businesses and consumers. Five specialized laboratories are tasked with testing for any animal disease and ensuring food supply safety.
While the second full week in March is formally recognized as “Ohio Ag Week” (March 9-15), Ohioans are encouraged to appreciate the year-round efforts of dedicated farmers and growers to bring fresh, nutritious food to tables across the state.
