Upcoming professional learning from OCALI

5/16/2022

The school year may be winding down but there are plenty of learning opportunities for educators and families through OCALI.

On May 19, 4-4:30 p.m., check out the latest InspirED session, “Revisiting Special Education Profile Data: Solving Problems of Practice Through Data Analysis.” Join the Teaching Diverse Learners Center at OCALI and the Department as they model the use of a data collection template that can be populated with Special Education Profile and other data sets as a tool for problem-solving. Examine a sample problem that challenges the service provision for learners with disabilities, which may include topics such as disproportionality, least restrictive environment across subgroups, access to Tier 1 instruction across subgroups, graduation outcomes across subgroups, language and literacy outcomes across subgroups and more.

“What do you want to do when you grow up?” can be an overwhelming question for young people to consider. In the new episode of the “Journey Towards Independence” series May 25 at 4:30, join Michelle Motil, an OCALI family support liaison, as she shares her experience with career education and exploration and learn more about transition supports and resources available.

On June 2, 9 a.m.-noon, plan to attend “Unlocking the English Code: Assessments for Learners Who Are Deaf/Hard of Hearing and Blind/Visually Impaired.” Join the Outreach Center for Deafness and Blindness at OCALI for this live, dynamic event that will keep attendees actively engaged as they spend time together as low-incidence practitioners to:

  • Identify layers of assessment and how data from each layer can be used;
  • Dive into supports and accommodations that give access to assessments for learners who are deaf/hard of hearing or blind/visually impaired; and
  • Apply the learning to case studies that will help transfer this session to direct practice.
