Special Education Profiles updated with additional indicators

5/23/2022

The Department has updated the 2021-2022 Special Education Profile for each school district and community school to include additional indicators. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires states to analyze the performance of each local district on the special education indicators each year. These indicators do not require any added compliance activities from schools or districts. The added indicators include:

  • Graduation with a regular high school diploma rate (Indicator 1);
  • Dropout rate (Indicator 2);
  • Math and reading assessment participation rates (Indicator 3a);
  • Math and reading standard assessment proficiency rates (Indicator 3b);
  • Math and reading alternate assessment proficiency rates (Indicator 3c);
  • Math and reading assessment proficiency gaps (Indicator 3d);
  • Least restrictive environment for school-age students (Indicator 5);
  • Least restrictive environment for preschool students (Indicator 6); and
  • Preschool outcomes (Indicator 7).

The Department notified superintendents, special education contacts, community school sponsors and state support teams about the update by email May 18. Educators can access the Special Education Profiles through the Department’s OH│ID portal.

IDEA requires public reporting of each local district’s indicator data by June each year. The Department will post special education indicator data for each district and community school to the Special Education Profiles webpage as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet by June 1. The Department plans to release the public version of the Special Education Profiles later in the summer. Each district’s Ohio School Report Card page also links to the public profiles.

Contact the Department’s Office for Exceptional Children for questions about the Special Education Profiles.
