During National Food Allergy Awareness Week (May 8-14), the Department reminds educators the “Food Allergy for Educators” course is available in the Learning Management System. About two students per classroom have food allergies. It is vital for school personnel to train and prepare for anaphylactic emergencies.

Ohio law requires public schools, community schools, joint vocational schools, state-supported organizations and educational service centers to complete Prevention Services Data Reporting. The Department has extended the reporting deadline to Friday, May 13.

May 11 is National School Nurse Day. In a recent message, the Ohio Department of Health’s Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff recognized the importance of school nurses and announced several professional development resources for them, including the 2022 Virtual Orientation for Nurses New to Ohio Schools.

In partnership with the Department, the American Institutes for Research is recruiting expert practitioners to serve on panels that will inform policy. Potential panelists should be exceptionally familiar with educational programs that are known to produce positive outcomes for students with disabilities. Apply by May 20 at 11:59 p.m.
