Food Allergy Awareness Week and available training

5/9/2022

During National Food Allergy Awareness Week (May 8-14), the Department reminds educators the “Food Allergy for Educators” course is available in the Learning Management System. Created by the Allison Rose Foundation and Code Ana in partnership with the Department, this one-hour credited course is accessible to all licensed school professionals. It introduces educators to food allergies and how to prepare for an anaphylactic emergency.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, food allergies are a growing public health concern that affect an estimated 8% of children in the United States or about two students per classroom. It is vital for school personnel to train and prepare for anaphylactic emergencies. Visit the Department’s Food Allergy webpage for resources and guidance. For questions about the course content, email child.nutrition@education.ohio.gov. For questions about the Learning Management System, contact LMS Support. Contact Code Ana for more information or to request an in-person food allergy training in lieu of this course.

The Department is committed to providing access and inclusion and reasonable accommodation in its services, activities, programs and employment opportunities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other applicable laws. To request a reasonable accommodation due to a disability, please contact Aleshia McNutt, ADA coordinator, at ADAaccommodation@education.ohio.gov or (614) 387-2200 (voice) no later than 14 days before taking the “Food Allergy for Educators” course in the Learning Management System.
