Public comment period open for Special Education Methodology Updates and Target Setting

Submit comments through Dec. 8 on new special education indicator targets

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) established a series of special education “indicators” to measure services and results for students with disabilities. Stakeholders who serve or have a connection to students with disabilities are encouraged to provide input on Ohio’s methodology and targets for federal special education indicators, as the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce is engaging stakeholders to set new targets for one of these special education indicators based on new baselines:  

• Postschool Outcomes (Indicator 14): The 2024–2025 Special Education Profile establishes a new baseline for Indicator 14 following changes in data collection. As a result, the Department will need to set new targets due to updated data collection methods. 

 Proposed target options are available on the Special Education Methodology and Target Setting webpage. Public comments will be accepted by the Department through Dec. 8.
Stakeholders are encouraged to share this opportunity with their constituents to gather as much input as possible.
