Implementation of weighted grade and class standing policy for CTE advanced standing courses
11/18/2025
As of Sept. 30, 2025, all Ohio high schools, including city, local, exempted village, joint vocational, community, STEM, and chartered nonpublic schools, became required to adopt and implement a policy for awarding grades and calculating class standing for career-technical education courses that meet the criteria of the Career-Technical Assurance Guide (CTAG) or Industry Recognized Credential Transfer Assurance Guide (ITAG), as outlined in Ohio Revised Code 3313.6031 and 3333.162.
Districts that apply weighted grades for College Credit Plus, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or honors courses must apply the same weighted grades to eligible CTAG and ITAG courses. However, if a district does not have policies that weight grades or enhance class standing, districts do not have to develop a local policy.
If a district has a weighted grading policy, it may review its policies and determine locally if the new weight will be assigned to previously completed coursework. All course grades awarded after Sept. 30, 2025, complying with the career-technical education credit transfer criteria, policies, and procedures established under section 3333.162 of the Revised Code, must be weighted.
Required actions:
- Review and revise local grading and class standing policies to ensure compliance.
- Communicate updates to school counselors, registrars, and instructional staff.
- Ensure consistency across all high schools within your district.
