New student health and medication supports resources available

10/17/2022

The Ohio Department of Education expanded the Student Health and Medication Supports webpage to include information on health-related topics such as diabetes, asthma, food allergies and concussion to support students with health conditions. Schools can use this information to support the needs of the Whole Child. Ohio’s Whole Child Framework explains how students can fully engage in complex learning and social activities when their health needs are met. When schools, families and communities work together to prevent or manage health conditions such as food allergies, diabetes, asthma or concussion, students have a greater chance for improved attendance and educational success.

Ohio offers a variety of programs and funding to support student health. The Programs and Services to Help Cover Medical Expenses webpage lists many of these programs and services. The webpage has links to information on financial assistance for services to meet hearing and vision needs, including hearing aids, eyewear and medication assistance programs available for Ohio’s children.
