October is Ohio School Safety Month
10/2/2023
Ohio School Safety Month has been designated to increase public awareness of school safety programs and encourage Ohioans to identify their roles in keeping Ohio schools a safe place for students to learn and grow. Ohio’s Comprehensive School Safety Framework offers a comprehensive approach that balances providing physical and psychological safety in Ohio schools. The Comprehensive School Safety Framework includes:
- Evidence-based best practices to assist schools in developing a comprehensive approach that engages school staff, students and families;
- Important role assignments for personnel who are essential to the development of a comprehensive school safety approach, including principals, counselors, school security and law enforcement; and
- A list of the short-term, intermediate and long-term results the framework will deliver to more holistically support every child across Ohio.
Each week will highlight information schools and districts can use to support school safety. Together, districts, schools, families and communities can take action to create a school environment that facilitates students’ physical and psychological safety.
