Wear Orange Oct. 16 for Unity Day
October is Ohio School Safety Month and National Bullying Prevention Month.
The National Bullying Prevention Center leads the monthlong campaign to prevent childhood bullying and make bullying prevention a movement in every community. On Wednesday, Oct. 16, “
Wear and Share Orange” for Unity Day to unite for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to send a message that no child should ever experience bullying.
Students who are victims of bullying and students who exhibit bullying behavior experience negative effects. Students who bully are at an increased risk of chronic absenteeism, poor academic performance, increased mental health needs, and future incidents of violence and aggression. Schools can decrease bullying behavior with a clear policy that includes educating staff, communicating with families, investigating problems, and developing a
Student Action Plan.
