Additional resources available to support student attendance and engagement

The Ohio Department of Education released Supporting Student Attendance and Engagement guidance for districts and schools in the Back to School Resources section of its website. This webpage provides information on addressing attendance concerns resulting from illness or quarantine and implementing Ohio’s attendance laws using a supportive approach.

Important updates on school-related pupil transportation services

The Department launched a new compliance monitoring system to help transportation officials identify gaps in compliance and allow districts to share best practices. This statewide pilot program is scheduled for full implementation by April 1, 2022. Districts also should take note of new and amended provisions that pertain to pupil transportation in the most recent state budget bill.

Ohio colleges, universities and secondary schools must provide information about mature subject matter in college courses to students applying to participate in College Credit Plus and their parents or guardians. The required permission slip and supporting documents for this new requirement now are available.

Ohio’s Safety and Security Grant Program funding now is available for safety and security enhancements at religious institutions, chartered nonpublic schools, licensed preschools and nonprofit organizations. Apply by Nov. 12.

Form available for district roll up of affiliated community school performance data

Traditional public school districts that wish to combine the data of certain startup community schools with data from district-operated schools to calculate district performance as a whole on the Ohio School Report Cards must submit the required form to the Department by Nov. 5.
