Developing phonemic awareness is a crucial skill for hearing, identifying and manipulating individual sounds in spoken words. This skill is essential for learning and using the alphabetic code. Students who face difficulty in acquiring phonemic awareness can benefit from intervention that is explicit, systematic and diagnostic based on their individual skill needs.
Ohio Literacy Lead Carolyn Turner presents Explicit Intervention in Phonemic Awareness, which is part of Ohio’s Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plan (RIMP) Code video series. In this five-minute video, Turner reviews the essential elements of successful phonemic awareness intervention.
