Department seeking public comment for special education methodology, target setting, and received recommendations

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce is seeking additional input from educators, parents, and caregivers of children with disabilities on methodology and targets for special education indicators. Complete this form by Friday, Oct. 4 to provide feedback on the following special education indicators: 
 

Special Education Indicators and Stakeholder Input Needed

  • Graduation (Indicator 1): Seeking input on statewide targets. 
  • Dropout (Indicator 2): Seeking input on statewide targets. 
  • Significant Discrepancy in Long-Term Suspensions/Expulsions (Indicator 4a): Seeking input on methodology, specifically the number of years considered in the calculation. 
  • Significant Discrepancy in Long-Term Suspensions/Expulsions by Race/Ethnicity (Indicator 4b): Seeking input on methodology, specifically the number of years considered in the calculation. 
  • Disproportionate Representation of Racial/Ethnic Groups Identified with Disabilities, including Specific Disabilities (Indicators 9 and 10): Seeking input on methodology, specifically the number of years considered in the calculation. 
A focused stakeholder group met three times to review indicator fact sheets and public comment. 

While the Department is specifically seeking feedback on the items in the table above, stakeholders are encouraged to provide feedback on any part of the methodology. Stakeholders are encouraged to share this opportunity with their constituents to gather as much input as possible.

Question and Answer Session

The Department will answer questions about the methodology and target setting process during office hours via Teams on Wednesday, Oct. 2, from 11 a.m. to noon. Questions from stakeholders or constituents can also be directed to specialedtargets@education.ohio.gov
