Department rubric available for grades 6-8 high-quality instructional materials in English language arts

The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce has released a new local high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) rubric for core curriculum and instructional materials in English language arts for grades 6-8 on the Department’s HQIM webpage. The Department encourages the use of high-quality instructional materials in English language arts that allow for coherence and consistency in grades 6 and up.

Districts may use this evaluation rubric to determine how well instructional materials align with the science of reading and strategies for effective literacy instruction and Ohio’s Learning Standards for English Language Arts. Selecting instructional materials is an important school/district decision, and conducting a thorough review of instructional materials at the local level is essential for meeting the needs of students within a school or district.
