General

1. Can I login to OH|ID with my SAFE username and password?
No. Users are not able to log into OH|ID using SAFE credentials. To access the portal, an OH|ID account must be created first and then matched to your existing Department of Education (previously SAFE) profile.

2. I’m not seeing my Department of Education Applications like CORE, OEDs, College Credit Plus, Scholarship Application, etc. What can I do?

Users should make sure after adding the Department of Education Profile tile from the Available Apps section (see Figure 1), to click on the Department of Education Profile tile again when it appears under the My Apps section (see Figure 2). Doing this will start the matching process. If the OH|ID and Department of Education Profile match, the user’s applications will appear. For a more detailed explanation, please see steps 8 through 12a in this guide.

3. Once OH|ID is live, will SAFE still be available for users?
Once OH|ID is live, the SAFE portal will not be accessible. Users should log in to OH|ID to access their Department of Education Profile (previously called SAFE).

4. I create multiple OH|ID accounts under separate email addresses, is there a way for those accounts to be consolidated?
If a single user creates multiple OH|ID accounts, they will need to abandon the “duplicate” accounts in favor of the account they wish to use. User can abandon an account by updating the email on those accounts to a “dummy” or “fake” email address (a non-valid email address).

5. Can I change my OH|ID username after my account has been created?

No. You will have to abandon the account and create a new one.

6. What criteria does the Department of Education use to match an OH|ID profile to an existing SAFE account?

The Department of Education utilizes the user’s last name, DOB, and last 4 digits of their SSN to match to an existing SAFE account.

7. How long are passwords valid in OH|ID?
Passwords are valid for 13 months. After 13 months users will be prompted to updated their passwords when they try to login to OH|ID.

8. How do I access specific applications such as EdChoice, College Credit Plus, CORE, etc?
Users should log into OH|ID and then access their Education Profile to access all applications users previously had access to in the legacy SAFE platform. For additional help, please use these step-by-step instructions for  launching Department of Education applications via an OH|ID Account.

9. If I receive a message stating “we are processing your request. Need to wait 5-7 business days” What does this mean?

ODE is manually linking a user’s OH|ID account to their Department of Education Profile. The user will receive an email once their account is successfully linked.

10. I received an email stating that my email address in already in use. What does this mean?
These users are most likely State Employees trying to use their State email address to signup of OH|ID. The Department recommends that State Employees setup personal OH|ID accounts using their personal email addresses. Their work myOhio account is for work purposes. Their personal OH|ID account is for personal purposes such as EdChoice, College Credit Plus or their personal educator license.

The latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari work best when accessing the OH|ID portal.

12. I cannot check the “I agree” box or enter my SSN4 when try to link my Department of Education Profile, what should I do?

13. How do I update my name, phone, email, date of birth, and SSN in OH|ID?

The user needs to click the dropdown arrow next to the “User Account Management” tab in order to view the dropdown menu. Once the menu is open, click the “Update Profile” link to update OH|ID profile information, such as name, phone, email, date of birth, and SSN.
