Steve Dackin joined Columbus State Community College in August 2014 as the college’s superintendent of School and Community Partnerships. Dackin oversees the growing number of Columbus State partnerships and initiatives originating from the Central Ohio Compact, a regional strategy whose goal is for 65 percent of central Ohio adults to obtain a postsecondary degree or credential by 2025.

Before coming to Columbus State, Mr. Dackin served as superintendent of the Reynoldsburg City School District. Under his leadership, the district markedly improved performance, including performance of minority and economically disadvantaged students, while reducing spending. During Mr. Dackin’s tenure, the district developed one of the nation’s largest science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) pipelines, which served more than one-third of the district’s students. Reynoldsburg transformed its large, comprehensive high school into four grades 9-14 college and career academies, each aligned to clusters of careers that are important to Ohio’s economic development plans. With its new academy structure, the school became one of five U.S. high schools highlighted by the United States Department of Education’s Redesigning High Schools Initiative in 2013.

Mr. Dackin also worked for the Ohio Department of Education, where he served as the interim director of Regional School Improvement Services. He spent time at Westerville City Schools before returning to Reynoldsburg as assistant superintendent and then superintendent. His wife, Susan, recently retired from teaching at a Reynoldsburg elementary school, and their two daughters graduated from Reynoldsburg High School.

Mr. Dackin serves on various boards and is affiliated with civic and professional groups, including the Columbus Chamber of Commerce Workforce Development Committee, Columbus Region Coalition, and Workforce Development Board of Central Ohio.
