Brendan Shea was elected to the State Board of Education in November 2020. The 10th District includes Adams, Brown, Clark, Clermont, Clinton, Fayette, Gallia, Greene, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Madison, Pike, Ross, Scioto and the western portions of Pickaway and Vinton counties. Brendan's four-year term began in January 2021. He is eligible for reelection in 2024.
Hailing from a large family of educators, Brendan believes deeply in the life-changing power of education. He believes education should focus on the good, the true and the beautiful and that children must learn to think critically and develop wisdom and virtue, allowing them to achieve their God-given potential and to become engaged citizens and productive members of society.
As the father of five young children, Brendan knows firsthand the unique challenges families face in raising and educating their children today. He believes parents are the first and primary educators of their children, and he will be a strong voice for both parents and children on the Board.
Brendan earned his bachelor's degree in English from Colby College. He began his career as a research analyst and is now privileged to serve individuals, families and small businesses as a financial advisor. As a financial professional and business owner, Brendan is passionate about making sure Ohio's children have the knowledge and skill sets they need to be successful in the 21st century economy.
Brendan and his wife Lisa, an Ohio State University-trained physical therapist, reside in London, where they are raising and currently home educating their children. Brendan serves his local community in numerous ways, including as an active parishioner of St. Patrick Church, founder and president of Madison County Right to Life and member and past president of the London Rotary Club. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Brendan enjoys reading, exercising, the arts, Bible study and carefree timelessness with his family.
