Michelle Newman
District 8
Michelle Newman was elected to the State Board of Education in November 2020. She took office in January 2021, and her first term concludes December 2024.
Michelle currently serves as a Vice President and Director of Marketing for a community bank, and previously she ran her own small business marketing company for over a decade. In addition, Michelle is an advocate for local foods and entrepreneurship, having served as the executive director of the Canal Market District in Newark.
Michelle serves as the Vice Chair of the board for the Granville Area Chamber of Commerce. She considers herself a “community enthusiast” and served as the Vice President, Marketing of the Young Leaders of Licking County from January 2017 through March 2020. Michelle also was named one of Licking County’s “20 Under 40” in 2017.
Michelle received her undergraduate degree in Communications from Texas A&M University in 2000 and her master’s degree from Duke University in 2008. A former triathlete, Michelle completed Ironman Chattanooga, a 144.6-mile triathlon (1.2-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, 26.2-mile run) in 2017. Most importantly, Michelle is the mom to Mirabelle Hope, an exceptionally smart and funny little girl who is growing up far too quickly. Michelle and Mirabelle make their home in Newark, Ohio with their two Shih Tzus and one very precocious kitten.
