FY24 EMIS Change Open for Public Comment
Ohio Law requires EMIS to create a process by which users of the system can review and provide public comment on new or updated EMIS Guidelines. EMIS changes that are subject to this process must be posted on the website for 30 days for public comment, 30 days for the Department's response to comments, and then another 30 days for public review before changes are considered “final”.

Now Open for Public Comment
The public comment period for the following change closes at the end of the day on March 5. Please see the webpage at the above link for complete details.

New EMIS Coordinator Training: April 2024 In-Person Training Day
Thursday, April 4, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. with a 45-minute break for lunch
This in-person training day is intended for those who have been EMIS coordinators for less than a year. This day's training will include sessions on EMIS Communications & Resources, the Data Collector, ODDEX, and the SDC. These same topics are included in the online sessions (see the next item in the Newsflash). However, this in-person training will be less detailed and more tailored toward very new coordinators.

Space is limited. To express your interest in attending this training, fill out the survey at this link. The survey will be open Wednesday, Feb. 7 through the close of business Wednesday, Feb. 21. We will notify all responders by the close of business Thursday, March 7 to let them know whether or not their registration has been accepted. For more information, see the New EMIS Coordinator Training webpage.

New EMIS Coordinator Training: April 2024 Online Sessions
In April, we are again offering New EMIS Coordinator training. We strongly recommend that all EMIS coordinators with 3 or fewer years of experience with EMIS reporting attend. Though we have designed the April training with new EMIS coordinators in mind, these trainings are open to EMIS coordinators at all levels as well as to other district staff and administration who may be interested.

These sessions will be provided via Microsoft Teams. Each topic will be offered once with a recording to be posted after all sessions have concluded. We encourage you to invite other district staff with whom you work and who are involved with EMIS data or reporting to join you in watching these trainings.

Prior registration will not be required. A link to join the training and other pertinent information will be provided on the New EMIS Coordinator Training webpage.

EMIS Communications & Resources
Wednesday, April 10, 1-3 p.m.
This session will review the main ways in which EMIS communicates information with the field. This session will also look at the different types of EMIS documentation—from the EMIS Manual to Release Notes—and explain the purpose of each. EMIS coordinators at all levels as well as district staff and administration involved with reporting or reviewing EMIS data will find this session useful.

Data Collector
Thursday, April 11, 1-3 p.m.
The Data Collector is the tool by which districts submit their EMIS data to the Department. This is also where districts will find a number of reports provided to assist them in reviewing their data. EMIS coordinators at all levels as well as other district staff who will be submitting data or reviewing reports will find this session useful.

Working with the Data Collector
Friday, April 12, 9-11 a.m.
This session is under development. Watch the New EMIS Coordinator webpage for an updated description.

Ohio District Data Exchange (ODDEX)
Monday, April 15, 1-3 p.m.
ODDEX is the primary application for a number of smaller modules districts use for data verifications and exchanges. The modules include everything from enrollment data to assessment data to tuition information. This session will look at each module, focusing on overall function and newer modules. EMIS coordinators at all levels as well as district staff and administration who review or use EMIS data will find this session useful.

Working with Ohio District Data Exchange (ODDEX)
Tuesday, April 16, 9-11 a.m.
This session is under development. Watch the New EMIS Coordinator webpage for an updated description.

Data Appeals & Data Review and Verification
Thursday, April 18, 1-2 p.m.
This session will review the FY24 EMIS Data Appeals and Data Review and Verification requirements and processes. EMIS coordinators at all levels as well as district administrators who will be responsible for signing off on these processes will find this session useful.

Report Portal: Secure Data Center (SDC)
Friday, April 19, 9-11 a.m.
This session will introduce and review the Secure Data Center (SDC) and provide best practices for utilizing SDC reports. Though designed mainly for new EMIS coordinators, EMIS coordinators at all levels as well as other district staff involved with submitting and reviewing EMIS data may find this session useful and are welcome to attend.
