School Improvement Grants
The Department was granted an extension in the period of availability of FY20 and FY21 funds for the Title I Non-Competitive Supplemental Improvement Grant and the School Quality Improvement Grant. The funds are now available until 9/30/2023. For more information, please see CCIP Note #514.
The Office for Improvement and Innovation administers the Title I Non-Competitive Supplemental School Improvement Grant, School Quality Improvement Grant, and School Improvement Grant.
Federal Title I, Part A funds are awarded to local educational agencies, which are traditional school districts and community schools in Ohio. Under Section 1003 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), state education agencies are required to set aside 7 percent of the Title I award to support schools identified for improvement, known as Priority, Focus or Warning schools in Ohio.
Title I Non-Competitive, Supplemental School Improvement Grant
Ohio allocates Title I School Improvement funds to local education agencies (LEAs) with at least one identified schools (Priority, Warning or Focus Schools) on an annual basis through a non-competitive formula.
These Title I Non-Competitive, Supplemental School Improvement Grant funds should support evidence-based school improvement strategies that are data driven and aligned with the Ohio Improvement Process and the school’s improvement plan. The funds should also build the capacity of building staff and the community to address identified needs.

School Quality Improvement Grant
Ohio allocates Title I School Improvement funds to identified schools through a competitive program known as the School Quality Improvement Grant (SQIG).
The School Quality Improvement Grant provides funds to identified schools to implement sustainable, strategic improvement strategies. Activities funded by these grants should be part of a broader continuous improvement plan.
The Department was granted a 5th year extension for the School Quality Improvement Grant in April 2022. This waiver extends the period of availability of SQIG grant funds into FY23. There will not be an additional allocation of funds for SQIG in FY23, only remaining funds from the previous fiscal year(s) will be available. Funds that were carried over into FY22 have a period of availability until 09/30/22. Funds originally allocated in FY22 have a period of availability until 09/30/23.

School Improvement Grant
These School Improvement Grants (SIG) focused upon providing support for districts and schools to build their capacity to engage in inclusive, continuous, and targeted school improvement efforts to raise student achievement in a sustainable way.
No additional SIG grants will be awarded, as federal support for these specific grants is not expected in the future.
