Professional Learning Events
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce encourages and supports the continuous learning of all Ohio educators. How schools implement the English Language Arts Standards is entirely a local decision. However, the Department offers professional development resources that educators may find helpful as part of a commitment to Ohio's learners. The Ohio Standards for Professional Development will help educators identify high-quality learning opportunities.
The Writing Revolution Book Study
In 2022, the Department hosted a book study on The Writing Revolution by Judith C. Hochman and Natalie Wexler. This discussion-based series covered topics like constructing complex sentences, developing thought-provoking paragraphs and writing coherent compositions. Participants shared ideas about providing just-in-time writing instruction with an overall goal of accelerating student learning.
