Governor DeWine played a pivotal role in initiating Ohio’s Integrated Model Curriculum by championing the opportunity in the 2025 State of the State address and budget proposals, securing legislative funding and aligning with broader literacy initiatives under
ReadOhio.
House Bill 96 of the 136
th Ohio General Assembly also included appropriated funding to support the development and implementation of an integrated model curriculum that includes English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Civics.
Ohio’s Integrated Model Curriculum is designed to blend English language arts, social studies, and civics instruction alongside purposeful technology and life skills integration and to create cohesive, high-quality learning experiences that build academic achievement, responsible citizenship, and real-world readiness for students grades K - 8. Ohio's Integrated Model Curriculum Resources
The Department is releasing the draft Ohio's Integrated Model Curriculum materials to collect feedback and encourages schools and districts to explore how the materials can be used alongside local curricula. Ohio's Integrated Model Curriculum will be finalized and fully released in summer 2026.
The Department will soon publish the survey for Ohio's education community to share feedback on the draft materials. Sign up for email updates from the Department to learn when the feedback survey is released or revisit the webpage at a later date.
Ohio-Specific Source Sets
Ohio’s Integrated Model Curriculum incorporates curated high-quality resources that highlight various aspects of Ohio’s history and Ohio’s stories. The Integrated Model Curriculum offers resources and strategies that complement approved English language arts core curriculum and instructional materials, enriching instruction while increasing access to Ohio-specific social studies content. The Ohio-specific source sets include collections of primary and secondary resources, key vocabulary, instructional strategies, and assessment opportunities that help educators integrate social studies content and skills in meaningful ways.
Each source set helps expand student access to Ohio's stories, landscapes, and peoples while aligning to Ohio’s Learning Standards for Social Studies and English Language Arts. Source sets also incorporate the professional skills identified in the OhioMeansJobsReadiness Seal to elevate how Ohio's Integrated Model Curriculum prepares students for success.

Sample Lessons
The Department is providing sample lessons that demonstrate how to blend literacy and social studies/civics content to help educators integrate the source sets with approved local curricula and instructional materials.
Additionally, the sample lessons highlight opportunities for integrating
technology learning standards in instruction.
Ohio's Integrated Model Curriculum Sample Lessons
While the sample lessons reference approved curriculum and instructional materials in English language arts, the Department does not endorse a particular curriculum or set of instructional materials.
