Heritage Learners

Heritage Learners

A heritage learner is an individual who is raised in a home where a language other than English is the primary language. The student may speak, sign, or merely understand the heritage language and may be, to some degree, bilingual in English and the heritage language. A Heritage Learner may also be an individual who has been raised with a strong cultural connection to a particular ethnolinguistic group. Heritage learners may possess different abilities and levels of proficiency across communication and intercultural skills.
